Michael grew up in Savannah and graduated from Benedictine where he played on the golf team. He played collegiately at Florida Junior College and Jacksonville State. He earned All-American honors and represented the US in the World Golf Games held in France. In 2000, he was hired as the Men's Golf Coach at Armstrong State University and in 2005 started the Women's Golf  program.
